Land snail. Adults can reach a lenght of 10 cm with a weight of 30 g. In the wild they can reach an age of about eight years.
Prefers areas with soils on a limestone, because they need calcium carbonate for their shell.
In Germany listed as specially protected species.

Yes, you can eat them, though I'm not sure if it is still allowed as they protected.
There many here in my area, as the soil substrate is limestone, which they love.
