Spotting

Description:

Large beetle. It exhibited a seemingly threatening defensive posture when a clothespin was placed next to it for size reference. An odd appendage began to grow in the back and the beetle began to do 'push ups'. Perhaps it was trying to mate with the clothespin; I don't know. I've never seen anything like it before. It was found in the grass in a suburban backyard. What the heck is this thing?

I think it may be a Pine Sawer beetle - Ergates spiculatus. As for it's Behaviour I havent a clue, yet it made me laugh.
