It sure looks like a cactus wren... As for range, according to http://www.hcn.org/issues/40.13/manufact... and http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/cactus_w... southern California should be within its normal range.
It's got enough spots to be a Cactus Wren, but I don't know its range well enough to say for sure. http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/si...
