Erebia tyndarus
This Swiss brassy ringlet flew away before I had a chance at a closer shot. A mid-size blackish-brown butterfly with extensive orange on the upper wings, particularly in the male. Eyespots are more or less present and developed depending on individuals.
Found above the treeline between 1,200-2,700 meters ASL, in the Alps of Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austrian Vorarlberg, and adjacent regions. Spotted here at 2000 m ASL.
Wikepedia has interesting information about the taxonomy and evolution of this butterfly. The green overtones and variations seen in this butterfly are best seen here: http://www.eurobutterflies.com/species_p...

Thank you KatCuff!
Great info and beautiful find!
Please, join the new mission of European butterflies and moths and post all your corresponding spottings. We need a lot of people which would join the group to make it global! Thanks and best regards from Switzerland!

Thanks Marta and Chatanya!
Nature has a great paint brush!!
What a nice green color!
Thanks Noe and Pili! This made it a hard one to ID but the eurobutterflies.com site is fantastic. There are quite a few of these at the moment, but what makes them special is their very narrow distribution range.
Daniele, it's a very special butterfly, it's colors are mixed in a very cool way
Thanks Ashish!
Very cute butterfly with strange colour combination..!!
