Limenitis lorquini
This butterfly is found throughout western North America, from British Columbia down to California. It hosts on a variety of poplars and cherries. The coloration of this butterfly is meant to mimic that of the California sister, a somewhat related nymphalid which is unpalatable to most predators.

I saw one of these too but it's wings were damaged.
