Fishing Spider

Dolomedes

Description:

This spider was seen at night crossing an outside concrete porch. (It is on the ground not on a wall.) Artificial light used. There is some but not much hair on the legs. The indentation in the concrete near the bottom is like those in sidewalks giving some indication of size.

Habitat:

Can feed on the water surface. Spotted in the tropical south.

Thanks! I dislike looking up the IDs for spiders (but I do try). Somehow the sites I find just want to warn you about the really dangerous ones...

I've see these at lakes or ponds where the water is still on the edge. They walk on the algae. Every time I get close enough to get a picture they go further out.
