White-faced Meadowhawk

Sympetrum obtrusum

Description:

Just when I thought the dragonflies were done here come these beautiful little red gems. This dragonfly can often last through September. It is small, likes to perch, and is easy to photograph. They perch and wait for their prey, fly up snatch it and then settle down again on a plant or stem. Watching them today they almost seemed territorial.
