Eastern Phoebe

Sayornis phoebe

Description:

I initially passed this off as a Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos), but looking back at these photos, I thought this might be a lifer Contopus vireos, the Eastern Wood Pewee, due to the smaller size and yellowish lower belly. However, I now think this might be an Eastern Phoebe.

Habitat:

On the edge of woods near a swampy pond area.

Thank you very much Dixie! This one was new to me as well! I didn't know about it until I had started questioning my preliminary ID of Mimus polyglottos!
