rainforest tree

Kopsia flavida

Description:

The genera Kopsia and Cerbera are members of the family Apocynaceae. There is one Kopsia species in New Guinea (K. flavida) and two species of Cerbera (C. floribunda and C. manghas). These species share some similarities in their flowers, leaves and fruits. (In fact, the genera were, in another species, once treated as synonyms http://www.uniprot.org/taxonomy/28505htt... ). Of the three species in New Guinea mentioned above, this spotting looks closest to Kopsia flavida.

Habitat:

Spotted in equatorial lowland rainforest beween 500-1000 m from the seacoast.

Jonathan, you've made a suggestion of Kopsia fruticosa. Do you have a supporting link? I mean one that puts it in New Guinea. A suggestion is composed of a common name. a scientific name and a reference link. On what basis can a user evaluate a suggestion unless it is based on something other than just a suggestion of names? I have only found one Kopsia species referenced for New Guinea and it is not fruiticosa but Kopsia flavida. This does resemble my spotting http://www.tropicos.org/Image/100238423 even a bit more than Cerbera http://www.tropicos.org/Image/100238568 . BTW the genera Cerbera and Kopsia are both members of the family Apocynaceae. They have similar flowers, leaves and fruits. In fact they may at time be synonyms http://www.uniprot.org/taxonomy/28505 Please try to give the recipients of your suggestions something to work with besides just the name. Thank you.
