Crane fly

Epiphragma solatrix

Description:

Large fly, looks like a large mosquito at first glance. Wings have dark spots, most of the body is brown, has halteres behind the wings.

Habitat:

Forest

Notes:

Could be wrong on the species, but that's the closest match I've found so far. Definitely need to brush up on the Diptera. Found at Barbara A. Beiser Field Station.
