I think annorion is right on this one. The pileated is found in forest areas, while the ladder-backed is found in dry regions. According to wikipedia, the pileated can be found in the Eastern parts of the US. Seeing that you found this in Florida (where dry regions aren't common) I think annorion is correct about this bird.
