Dryocopus pileatus
Woodpecker of some sort?
Took on the way out of the post office!
I think annorion is right on this one. The pileated is found in forest areas, while the ladder-backed is found in dry regions. According to wikipedia, the pileated can be found in the Eastern parts of the US. Seeing that you found this in Florida (where dry regions aren't common) I think annorion is correct about this bird.
I am going to research this a bit later (given the two suggestions), but if in the meantime anyone else sees this and can chime in that would be great!
