East Pacific red octopus

Octopus rubescens

Description:

Arm length is only about 4 inches so probably a juvenile octopus. This one was dark brownish-red. It's a highly variable species and color can vary from deep brick red to brown, to white, or mottled mixtures of the three.

Habitat:

Spotted at the Point Loma Tide Pools in San Diego. Occurs intertidally to a depth of 300 m.
