In the garden. Pretty sure it's native, grows on its own. I don't get rid of them. It's my dad's garden and he don't seem to mind them.

You're right; I think it still may be a wood sorrel, maybe the yellow. Here is a USDA profile; I know the Oxalis are a common genus of weeds throughout the Eastern Seaboard

I think it may be a common weed throughout the US, common wood sorrel. The latin name is Oxalis stricta, although its tricky to tell without the flower
