Northern red legged frog

Rana aurora

Description:

Considered a threatened species in Oregon, due to the introduction of the bullfrog in many areas(especially the Willamette Valley), this species has prominent dorsal lateral folds

Habitat:

forest near bog

Notes:

My husband found him while we were mushrooming and walking our dog. I had to run back to the car for a camera while he watched the frog, which stayed until I tried for a better close up.

That's encouraging. That looks like a good wildlife area, I'll have to make the trip up :)

I don't think there's bullfrogs in the Beaver Creek marsh. I grew up with them in Eugene, and I haven't heard their croak on Beaver Creek where there's so many red-leggeds.

We do, but they haven't spread they way they have inland. I know inland they are a scourge on the native turtle population, which has been hard on them, as they don't have as many strongholds on the coast

I guess the bullfrog hasn't made it to the coast. I find a lot of these, especially when they're crossing the road on certain very rainy days (too sad; I should have a bumper sticker "I Swerve for Frogs").
