Mountain mahoghany

Cercocarpus

Description:

Small, brushy tree growing in thick stands. This particular tree with the "fuzzies" was a rare sighting, we only saw 2 or three like this among the heavy populations of mahoghany. It looks like an alder leaf mahoghany, although they are not supposed to be this far west.

Habitat:

Oregon High Desert, mostly on rocky hills
