Banded Sphinx Moth

Eumorpha fasciatus

Description:

"The fore wing is dark brown with a tan stripe which extends from the base to the apex. There are also white lines that cover the veins. The black hind wing has a broad pink median band. It has a wingspan of 2 to 3 inches."

Habitat:

"The moth's range is throughout the United States and extends north into southern Canada and south into Mexico. It can also be found occasionally in the West Indies."

Notes:

Found it on my Honeysuckle Vines, resting I assume.

The two species are similar and easy to confuse. I have done so on more than one occasion.

This is actually a Banded Sphinx Moth - Eumorpha fasciatus. These moths are typically restricted to the Southeast.

Nice image, by the way. They don't often show the pink of the hindwing while resting.
