Mexican Spotted Owl

Strix occidentalis lucida

Notes:

There were three of these deep in a slot canyon (Pine Creek) of Zion National Park in the afternoon. One of them never landed, but these two did. I never did narrow it down to what kind of owls these are! Hoping you can help. I only remember the date so far as "June 2008." Could it be a Mexican Spotted Owl? The internet shows reports of them being sighted in this location.

You're correct! Mexican Spotted Owl.
Barred doesn't make it to Utah.
