Didelphis virginiana
The Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana), commonly known as the North American opossum or Tlacuache in Mexico, is the only marsupial found in North America north of Mexico. A solitary and nocturnal animal about the size of a domestic cat, and thus the largest opossum, it is a successful opportunist. It is familiar to many North Americans as it is often seen near towns, rummaging through garbage cans, or lying by the road, a victim of traffic.

What a cute shot!!
love the Opossum. Pretty much love the photograph too.
Yeah Ive heard that too
Thanks guys. I see way too many of these guys as roadkill. The locals here often hunt Possums and eat them. I've heard they don't taste too bad.
Here in Ecuador it is called "Raposa" and amazingly some people, when found in garbage, catch them and eat this adorable animal :(
cute!
Simply love these little guys. Twenty-five years ago we rescused one from a road-killed female and it and my three-year-old were fast friends for almost a year. We released it far from many paved roads.
Adorable!
How cute! We have them round here but I've only ever seen them dead on the road. :(
