Yes, I think they may migrate, this place I saw them, is very wild. I never see them in the urban areas. I would guess they live in rural areas, this is a prairie and they may be eating the cattail seeds in picture 2?I looked online and it said Many birds use cattails as a nesting material; the leaves to form the structure and the fluffy seeds to make a warm, soft lining. Maybe they nest in the south?
No problem p.young! I am not sure if they migrate where you are... definitely in Ontario they didn't stick around in the winter (and I don't blame them!), they went south. If you're in Florida, I imagine they are resident all year round! I think it's regional too, though. I know people in N America who, like you, rarely see these birds, but for me they were in my backyard everyday. I miss the little guys, we don't get them in England!
