I am envious - though I never tire of watching the antics of the ruby-throats at my feeders! You do have some wonderful photos -it's also good to see them at a flower rather than visiting a feeder!
Karen, I believe that the reflection of the red flower throws off the color quite a bit! While I was in Rockport, I saw some Buff-bellied and Rufus also.
Will, your Rubythroat pictured here seems to be leucistic! Nice find and wonderful shot! Karen, many species of hummingbirds winter here in the southeast, but are quite scarce. As for the ID, the Black-Chinned Hummingbird is the only other species found this time of year where the photo is mapped, but the bill isn't long enough or decurved to be Black-Chinned.
Lovely shot! Are you sure about the ID? It looks very dark underneath for a ruby-throat though I guess that could also be the refection from the flower. You have 18 different species of hummingbird in Texas - we only get the ruby throats here in Tennessee!

Thanks for the info Liam! I noticed this one was a little different to the ruby-throats we see round here.
