wild turkey

Meleagris gallopavo

Description:

Adult Wild Turkey Description Large, dark ground-dwelling bird. Long, powerful legs. Large, fan-shaped tail. Bare head and neck. Short, slightly down curved bill. Tip of tail chestnut-brown

Habitat:

Native to north america, Wild turkeys like open areas for feeding, mating and habitat. They use forested areas as cover from predators and for roosting in trees at night. A varied habitat of both open and covered area is essential for wild turkey survival.

Notes:

Sprung out of the vegetation when I got to close to it, and started striding back and forth as if it was guarding something. Couldn't find any nest a couple days later when I returned though...
