Red-eared slider

Trachemys scripta elegans

Description:

The red stripe on each side of the head is the most distinguishing characteristic of the Red-eared Slider. These were very active as I was taking pictures.

Habitat:

Native to the Mississippi River Basin. Introduced to FL. These were spotted in a small freshwater pond near a bayou.
