Monarch butterfly

Danaus plexippus

Description:

This Monarch butterfly is completely soaked from the big storm the nigh before and the continuous rain after that, I found a couple more on the ground unable to fly in danger of predators(photo #2). This is just to show how difficult is the Monarch migration. The Monarchs that managed to stay in the tree were waiting for sunshine to continue their trip south to their winter grounds (photo # 3). The next day was bright and clear.

Habitat:

Tall trees with foliage.

So sad to see this :( I hate to see bad things happen to butterflies. Well, such is life. Wish them God speed!

They have amazing stamina for a creature so fragile.
