Description:

Mantids can turn their heads 180 degrees. They are good predators; usual victims are moths, crickets, grasshoppers, flies, and other insects. Mantids are prone to cannibalism. The adult female sometimes eats her mate after or during mating.

Yes, pretty cool bugs. State College is a few hours away. I also spotted a black beetle similar to the one you spotted. I have yet to post it. Thanks Kristal!
