Description:

Based on its appearance alone I'd call this some sort of platter or bowl fungus. The two photos were taken one week apart of the same fungus growing near the ground in the trunk of a Norway Maple tree in my back yard. One day a few squirrels were drinking the water that had accumulated in the platter/bowl of the fungus
