Great Blue Heron

Ardea herodias

Description:

Had excessive feather loss on left shoulder. Stood about 3 feet off ground and went wading up to it's breast in Sylvan Lake. It flew off when I got to close and let out its loud grunting alarm call.

Habitat:

Streams, rivers, lakes, shallow ponds.

Notes:

When it flew off, it landed about 50 yards north of where it was.
