Ashy-crowned Sparrow-Lark

Eremopterix griseus

Description:

The Ashy-crowned Sparrow-lark is a bird of the open dry habitat. It has a perfectly camouflaged plumage, which makes it quite difficult to spot it in its habitat. It is also known as the Ashy-crowned Finch-lark or Black-bellied Finch-lark. The male species is known for their brilliant black-brown plumage, while the female is slightly paler than the male. However, the female Sparrow Lark with their brown plumage are better camouflaged than the male. Taking advantage of their camouflaged plumage, the species nests on the ground in open habitat.

Habitat:

It is found in stubble, scrub, waste land, riverside sand and tidal flats on the coast.

Notes:

It was very difficult to get good snaps of this bird because of its camouflage. It took me almost 2 to 3 visits to the site to spot the bird and get decent enough pictures. Finally got these snaps and the birds got used to me. the first two pics are male and the third one is female.
