A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Juglans nigra
Small tree with pinnate leaves and large green (unripe) fruits. When the outer layer of the fruit is removed the walnut is recognizable.
Between sports fields and community garden on Penn State campus.

Thanks very much :-)
LOL,that would be tough, well enjoy the trees out there, and keep up the good work...and welcome to pa.
Oops, sorry about that. I'll take it off that mission.
Ken: it really is very pretty. I grew up out west, so it's been fun for me to start learning the plants and animals out here. The trees are still boggling my mind a bit, but I'm working on learning them. Guess I'm lucky I'm not trying to learn trees in the tropics. ;)
i see your out by state college,my niece goes to penn state, nice country side out there...
Hello. We are going through organism groups and missions on the site. I noticed that your black walnut spotting is signed up for the Flowers of North America mission. While the tree does flower this isn't evident in the spotting. I only mention this because the mission page says "Show us what flowers are blooming near you". Otherwise it is a valuable plant spotting. Thanks for contributions to Project Noah!
