Common buzzard & rooks

Buteo buteo & corvus frugilegus

Description:

Buzzard - medium-sized, broad-winged, rather compact raptor with broad, short neck and medium-length tail. Glides on flatter wings, generally with slightly raised inner wing and slightly lowered outer wing. Plumage variable, from very dark to very pale. Off-white tail densely barred grey, pale band across chest regardless of morph. From below, trailing edge of wing and wing-tips blackish, involving whole 'fingers'. Rest of flight-feathers whitish, barred dark. Rook - all black plumage which at certain angles shows reddish-lilac gloss. Adult told by bare whitish-grey skin around bill base and lack of nostril feathering. Has flat forehead, peaked crown and 'short nape', flattened breast and amply belly.

Notes:

The buzzard is to the lower left of the picture. It's being mobbed (attacked) by several rooks, which are driving it away from their territory.
