Columbidae
I would never normally take a picture of a pigeon, but the colours on this one where just Beautiful, So I could not resist.
Pigeons and doves are distributed everywhere on Earth, except for the driest areas of the Sahara Desert, Antarctica and its surrounding islands and the high Arctic.
Ha ha thanks for the comment Carolina. Quite amazing I never knew this either. I do not know whether all birds produce this type of milk. Lets wait to here back from Ava :)
They make milk!? I didn't know that!
(all birds produce that kind of milk, or just the pigeons? (sorry if its a silly question))
Ava you are right, something everyone takes for granted eg a pigeon has some very fascinating information.
Wow Ava! Thank you for the information, that's an amazing fact to know. I will never look at this "common" birds in the same way. Thanks again :)
But pigeons are really so amazing; why not take their pictures? Here's a bit from Wikipedia about the "milk" they make to feed their young:
Crop milk bears little resemblance to mammalian milk, being a semi-solid substance somewhat like pale yellow cottage cheese. It is extremely high in protein and fat and contains more of it than cow or human milk.[4]It has also been shown to contain anti-oxidants and immune-enhancing factors. [5] Both male and female adult birds produce crop milk and share in the feeding and care of the young.
