Marbled Emperor Moth

Heniocha dyops

Description:

A picture coming in from Zambia of an Emperor moth. Often refered to as giants among moths this one was resting in the long blades of fresh grass. It comes from some old photos we have and sadly is not the best quality but we can see a descent amount of the wings and beautiful markings. Interestingly, Emperors i have seen usually carry the beautiful eyespots on the hind wings. This male has the long 'comb like' antennae of these moths and like the female dose not feed and is short lived.

Habitat:

Prefers Open Savanah and scrub land
