Description:

Golden brown Silk Moth, very tame. This is the male. Family Saturniidae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

See the reference site for pictures of the male, female and larva. This species feeds on pine.

Thank you so much bayucca. So many links and all very useful! I especially like the bizland.com that shows both sexes and the larva. Our forests are mostly pine, and I have not yet seen this larva.
