Kentish Plover

Charadrius alexandrinus

Description:

This is how Kentish Plovers try to lure unwanted guests away from their young - they flap about pretending they have damaged wings and cannot fly. The lure the predator away from the young, then fly up at the last minute, circle round, and land further away and repeat the process. At the same time the other adults will lead the young to a safe place. The young are also able to bury themselves in the sand to hide.

Habitat:

Beach with sand dunes
