Momotus momota
This bird had a medium-small body, but what looked like a really large belly. The head was a vibrant blue, face black with blue accent on the cheek, eyes a bit reddish and a dirty black beak. The belly was almost the color of the grass around it, with a bit of an orange hue and one black spot on the right side of its chest - possibly dirt, I hear these are diggers. The tail was big and long, but I never saw it spread, nor did I see this bird fly. He appeared out of nowhere, then sat very curiously watching us humans and he looked so cool nobody was willing to move close enough to make him take flight.
This bird is sitting on a pole just next to a pool filled by natural hot springs in the mountains just outside of Manizales, Colombia. Heavy rain, heavy fog and a chill are a usual for late in the year, especially high up in the mountains like this.
