Crimson Patch

Chlosyne janais

Description:

A medium-sized butterfly with black wings, highlighted by the namesake patch just off the body. The outer halves of the wings were spotted with white in no particular patter, and there was one line of white dots along the back edge of the crimson patch.

Habitat:

Somewhere around halfway down Mombacho Volcano this, and many other types of butterflies, were variously settling on cultivated flowers outside of a coffee shop. The area is cloudy, often rainy, but at an elevation that was still fairly warm.
