Congratulations Cindy, your beautiful Masai giraffe have been chosen as Spotting of the Day for World Giraffe Day!"Today is World Giraffe Day, and these beautiful Maasai Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis tippelskirchi) are ourSpotting of the Day! World Giraffe Day is an annual event initiated by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation to celebrate the tallest living terrestrial animal on 21 June 21st every year. Currently the IUCN recognizes only one species of giraffe with nine subspecies, whereas research based on mitochondrial and nuclear DNA has suggested up to eight distinct species. Giraffe have recently been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. It is estimated that fewer than 100,000 giraffe remaining in all of Africa. The number of Masai giraffe alone has dropped by more than half in the last 30 years.
