Eastern Red-backed Salamander

Plethodon cinereus

Description:

One of them is considered a "Leadback" because of it's lack of red pigmentation.

Habitat:

"The species largely consumes invertebrates and other detritus dwellers. In some areas with good habitat, these salamanders are so numerous that their population densities may surpas 1,000 individuals per acre."

Notes:

Found a multitude under an old tarp. Dark place + a lot of rain = Happy Salamanders :)

Yes! There were so many of them! They were hiding under an old tarp, and because of the rain lately it was still wet. I guess it made them pretty happy!
