Description:

very thick, black semi-circular fungi affixed to tree

Habitat:

tropical highland forest; mostly native trees, ferns and grasses; some alien species

Notes:

spotted along Puu Ohia Trail; this sort of fungus also sometimes called dinner plate fungus, although the fungi in this spotting were much thicker than any dinner plate I ever saw
