Black-belly Plover

Pluvialis squatarola

Description:

Small birds with greyish-blue wings sporting black tips and white bellies.

Habitat:

These birds alternated between the sand on the beach - usually chasing the tide back and forth as they dug in the surf for food - and the giant estuary behind the peninsula that filled at high tide and ran nearly dry at low tide.
