A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Long-legged, long-billed birds with feathers somewhere between tan and grey. These birds were always in packs, often mixing with gulls and many other birds on the sand (though still staying in pockets of their own species).
These birds alternated between the sand on the beach - usually chasing the tide back and forth as they dug in the surf for food - and the giant estuary behind the peninsula that filled at high tide and ran nearly dry at low tide.
