Winters in Florida's costal bays and oceans
This bird was rescued after being found in a parking lot. It was then transferred to a rehabilitation center that specializes in water birds. Sometimes water birds like this loon as well as diving ducks and grebes land on wet pavement thinking its water. Due to their small legs positioned far back on their large bodies they are unable to stand and can not get of the ground.

Apprecite the story and knowledge!
Glad to hear this story has a happy ending!
Birds like this one that land in parking lots usually don't have any major problems and are quickly able to be released. This loon only had some abrasions on his feet.
I didn't realize they were that big...the photo with hand puts them into perspective.
Thanks for the info..
Do most birds that parking lot dive heal up and get released back?
