Gopher Tortoise

Gopherus polyphemus

Description:

A very large female gopher tortoise, larger than most sources list at nearly 18in long and 15 or so lbs. Also found her burrow and feeding trail.

Habitat:

Preserved pine rocklands.

Notes:

She had been living in an isolated preserved area for who knows how long, and had never been spotted or tagged before this. Has not been seen again since.
