Mistletoe

Alepis flavida

Description:

This Mistletoe is down at the DOC office in Te Anau. The first photo is of the parasite's Haustoria, this is the point where the plant attaches to its host. In this case the host is a Mountain Beech, (Nothofagus solandri ) but the parasite is happy to parasatise many tree's.

Habitat:

As stated above this plant is a parasite. It is also an obligate parasite which means that it has to be a parasite to survive and is impossible for it to grow on the ground.
