Big Leaf Maple in the valley west of the Cascades in central Washington
Not every fallen maple leaf showed signs of this. I'm assuming it's a fungus. Maybe it's a slime mold?
Thanks for the ID! It was pretty obscure. After reading the article, I'm glad I didn't pick the leaf up and bring it home.
