Dark-eyed Junco

Description:

Size of a sparrow. The one pictured is of the slate colored variety. The outer tail feathers are white and prominently displayed in flight. Gray mantle,throat,neck, and wings transitionaing to a whitish belly and undertail coverts. Some individuals may have pale white wing bars.

Notes:

Dark-eyed Juncos breed in the upper mid-west and Canadian woods. This species migrate to the lower US 48 during the winter months and flock together along with other species which visit feeders.
