Paddy melon

Cucumis myriocarpus

Description:

small yellow melons with soft prickles on skin. Melons were about 20-25 mm in diameter.

Habitat:

Arid open areas.

Notes:

Found these inedible but cute paddy melons covering large areas near Broken Hill. They are interesting little fruit that appear in clusters..dotting the landscape. Unfortunately they are very toxic to cattle and to humans.
