Tinder Fungus

Fomes fomentarius

Description:

A hoof shaped woody fungus about 70mm thick and 180mm wide. The upper surface was the same colour as the tree bark (grey) but was cracked and wavy. The underside was smooth and a pale brown colour.

Habitat:

Growing in a deep old but healed cut/wound of a mature eucalyptus tree.
