Eastern Gray Squirrel

Sciurus carolinensis

Description:

This is an abundantly common species of squirrel found in many parts of the eastern U.S. The are not very unusual in any way, other than that they tend to be larger than many other species of squirrel.

Habitat:

Forests in many parts of the eastern U.S. They live in trees and dens, much like most other species of squirrel do.

Notes:

This guy seemed so content to just sit on the bird feeder. Though it is a shame that all of the birds were scared away.

They are huge because we birders feed them free meals intended for the birds.
