Aquatic Grasshopper (nymph)

Cornops aquaticum

Description:

The nymphs of this semi-aquatic grasshopper display amazingly bright colours, which disappear in adulthood becoming a more cryptic green and brown. It specialises on eating Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), which is very common throughout the Amazon basin.

Habitat:

I found this fella just outside of Tena in the Ecuadorian Amazon region.
