Today I was lucky! After more than two years of hunting I have caught the common kingfisher on photo.
Thank you!
Thank you Patti!
Beautiful
Hahaa, no no! My hunting is with a camera.
Well, I hope you didn't use live ammo!!!
very good!
@ Malcolm: The hunt is on! And I already have one other Kingfisher that I shot in New Zealand but it is a bit far of. I will post it this week.
thank you Malcolm for the nice info in that link.. :)
Then you just have to wait for the other 89 species of Kingfisher!
Maybe if I wait long enough this female can still become a male!
Here are some details with a picture of a male for comparison: http://www.birdforum.net/opus/Common_Kin...looks like the red patch on the bill is the only difference!
The male has an all black bill while the female has a red patch on the lower base. That is according to one book. I'll check for more info from a reliable source.
Hahaa, I'd rather catch the female, But you are right I have got to get out there again!
@ Malcolm,,, how can you tell male from female? i read a book and it says sexes alike.
Very nice picture!
Well done, looks like you have the female. Now, like me, you need to catch the male, good luck!
Thanks!
Amazing sharp!!! Love this bird (and your picture)
This is a gorgeous bird and a great capture. I hope I could photograph this fellow sometime :)
Thank you! It has been two good days of pfotographing for me. I have plenty of photos I still have got to post. I hope these will please you as well.
Epic!
KarenL -- it was Gary Player who said that. And FoTony, congratulations on finally catching such a lovely photo of this elusive bird.
Today I was lucky indeed.
As someone once said (Arnold Palmer I think?) "the more I practice, the luckier I get!"
